Alexandra Winthrop is a professional tattoo artist and colored pencil illustrator with a love of all things macabre and bizarre.
Finding inspiration in the macabre, the workings of anatomy, and the kaleidoscope of the natural world, her work features a keen attention to detail and dynamic use of color. From delicately decayed birds to pearl encrusted skeletons, her subjects balance between the lines of unnerving and hauntingly fascinating in a world that can only be described as “funereal nature”.
Alexandra studied Media Arts and Animation at the Illinois Institute of Art – Schaumburg. After working for several years as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator, she realized her true passion was not with computer arts, but with the traditional art forms she had nearly abandoned after college. As she sought to fine tune her skills in colored pencil illustration, she took an apprenticeship in tattooing and fell in love with the medium. Now she applies her illustrative style to her tattooing, creating a harmonious meld of her two favorite art forms.
